Havering’s Local Heritage List helps our communities and the local planning authority to identify heritage assets (for example, buildings, monuments, sites and landscapes) that are much loved and a distinctive part of our local historic environment. It provides a comprehensive list of the location of assets and what is significant about them.
During June - August 2023, we asked for your comments on the criteria. Robust criteria ensure the local list is properly evidenced, which in turn allows each nomination to be given full consideration during planning decisions.
We received 21 responses.
The Local Heritage List criteria have now been updated, taking on board comments we received during the consultation. Changes include:

There are criteria to be met before being put forward for consideration. This is an important part of the process to ensure the local list is robust and properly evidenced, which in turn allows each nomination to be given full consideration during planning decisions.
We want to hear from you what you think should be included in that criteria and welcome your views. Survey closes on 10th August.
Once the criteria has been agreed, we’ll follow up with a further consultation in September this year which will provide an opportunity for the community to put forward the buildings and assets that they think should be included on the local heritage list.

Your views will inform the final version of the criteria that will be adopted by the Council.
Once the criteria are confirmed, there will be a nominations period starting in September 2023 where you will be able to submit suggestions of buildings and assets that you would like to see added to the Local Heritage List.
