A1306 New Road / Marsh Way Junction Collisions Reduction Scheme - Proposed Safety Improvements

Overview

A1306 New Road / Marsh Way Junction Collisions Reduction Scheme - Proposed safety improvements

Havering Council is looking for your views on a proposed safety improvement scheme for the A1306 New Road / Marsh Way Junction.

It follows a feasibility study that was carried out and found that up to 1,700 vehicles per hour use A1306 New Road with speeds of up to 45 mph regularly recorded.

Further analysis of collision records showed that a total of twenty-eight personal injury accidents (PIAs) were recorded at this junction over a five-year period. Of these twenty-eight PIAs, three were serious and twenty-five were slight; one involved a pedestrian and ten occurred during the hours of darkness.

The analysis of collision data has revealed that most collisions involve two conflicting traffic streams, New Road ahead traffic (east to west) and right turning traffic from New Road to Marsh Way (west to south).

With funding being provided by the Mayor of London’s Transport for London office (TfL), we can now look at a proposed scheme which includes the following, and can be found on the plan further below:

  • New right turn lane with splitter island along A1306 New Road West Arm for right turners from A1306 New Road to Marsh Way.
  • Separate signal phases for right turners from A1306 New Road to Marsh Way to remove traffic conflicts with vehicles travelling westbound along A1306 New Road

Large scale plans can also be seen on the Council website -
