Hacton Drive Pedestrian Zone - Consultation to Make the Scheme Permanent
Overview
Have your say on the Hacton Drive pedestrian zone
Havering Council would like to hear your views on whether the current pedestrian zone around Hacton Drive should become permanent.
The existing scheme is being trialled until 2 December, and before any decision is made about its future, we want to know what you think. Do you support making the pedestrian zone permanent, or would you prefer the current arrangements to end?
A pedestrian zone restricts motor vehicles from entering an area during specific times, unless the vehicle has an exemption permit. The aim is to create a safer and more pleasant environment for people walking and travelling to and from school.
The Hacton Drive scheme was introduced in response to issues reported in the area, particularly around the junction with Suttons Lane. It aims to:
- improve road safety
- encourage more walking and active journeys to and from school
- support healthier lifestyles
- help reduce air pollution.
If made permanent, the pedestrian zone would operate during school term time only, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 9am and 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
The restrictions would be enforced using a fixed camera with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). A map showing the area covered by the restrictions can be found on the following page.
