National Wraparound Programme Survey for Parents/Carers

Closed 18 Mar 2024

Opened 29 Feb 2024

Overview

Dear Parent/Carer,

The Local Authority (LA) has a statutory duty to ensure that there are sufficient wraparound childcare places in Havering for all parents and carers who want to access it.

Wraparound childcare is before and after school childcare for primary school aged children in England during term time, such as breakfast and regular afterschool provision that runs from at least 8am until 6pm or later. The care should be available every school day outside of regular school hours and is aimed at helping parents access more childcare and work the hours they want to.

In the Spring Budget in March 2023, the government announced an investment of £289 million over two academic years for a national wraparound programme.  This is to support those families with primary aged children who need access to paid for wraparound childcare from 8am to 6pm.  Parents should expect to see an expansion in the availability of wraparound childcare from September 2024.  By 2026, all parents and carers of primary school-aged children who need it, will be able to access term time childcare that parents pay for in their local area from 8am – 6pm, so that they can access employment and improve the labour market participation.

We are asking all parents/carers to provide some information about their experience with wraparound childcare in Havering.  This, in partnership with information from the DfE and the Local Authority’s own data, will help to provide a picture of where our support is needed to implement the national wraparound programme.

For the Local Authority to determine if we have sufficient wraparound childcare places, please can you complete this short survey.
