Hacton Lane Collisions Reduction Scheme - Proposed Safety Improvements

Closed 17 Nov 2023

Opened 27 Oct 2023

Overview

We would like to hear your views on a proposed safety improvement scheme for Hacton Lane, Hornchurch.

This follows a feasibility study that was carried out and found that up to 1,400 vehicles per hour use Hacton Lane with speeds of up to 55 mph regularly recorded. Further analysis of collision records showed that there have been a total of 20 personal injury collisions (PICs) along Hacton Lane over a five-year period. Of these 20 PICs, one was fatal; five were serious; two involved pedestrians and five occurred during the hours of darkness.

With funding being provided by the Mayor of London’s Transport for London office (TfL), we can now look at a proposed scheme which includes the following:

  • Raised pelican crossing
  • Raised pedestrian traffic islands
  • Speed tables
  • Rumble strip areas
  • Vehicle activated sign
  • Street lighting improvements
  • Left and right turn bans
  • Repeater 30mph signs

The proposals can be seen on the plans below and in the related documents section further below.
